As your ADHD coach, I help you build practical strategies that fit the way your brain actually works, so you can live with ADHD on your own terms.

Living with adult ADHD can feel like running on a different operating system
Most adults with ADHD have spent years being told to “just try harder”. Yet attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is not a lack of effort or intelligence. ADHD affects executive function, the brain's management system for planning, prioritising, time, memory and emotions. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) describes ADHD as a neurodevelopmental condition, and for many people it continues well into adulthood. Coaching helps you work with that system instead of fighting it.
- Starting tasks feels impossible, then you hyperfocus on the wrong thing
- Deadlines creep up because time feels invisible until it's urgent
- Procrastination and guilt follow you from week to week
- You have a dozen unfinished projects and a mind that never switches off
- Emotions hit hard and fast, and small setbacks feel huge
- Impulsivity costs you money, relationships or opportunities
- You're exhausted from masking at work and holding it all together
- You were diagnosed recently, or you suspect ADHD, and want to know what now
If you nodded at more than two of these, ADHD coaching can help. These ADHD challenges are common, and they are workable.
What is an ADHD coach, and how does ADHD coaching help?
An ADHD coach is a professional coach with a specialised understanding of ADHD who helps an individual with ADHD turn good intentions into consistent action. Life coaches in general focus mostly on goals and motivation. An ADHD life coach works on the “how”: the systems, routines and supports people with ADHD need to follow through and navigate life with more ease.
ADHD coaching helps in a practical, forward-looking way. We identify where ADHD affects your daily life, build strategies for managing ADHD in those areas, test them in the real world and adjust until they stick. You stay in the driver's seat. My role as your coach is to bring structure, accountability and an outside view of the patterns you can't always see from the inside. The goal is to empower you to manage ADHD with tools that are genuinely yours.
What an ADHD coach helps with
- Time management and planning: make time visible, estimate tasks realistically and plan your week in a way you'll actually use.
- Starting and finishing tasks: reduce procrastination with smaller entry points, body doubling and momentum techniques.
- Emotional regulation: understand your triggers, recover faster from frustration and rejection sensitivity, and respond rather than react.
- Impulsivity and focus: decide what matters, protect your attention and stop saying yes to everything.
- Work and career: meetings, deadlines, email, career change, and whether or how to talk to your employer about ADHD.
- Home, money and relationships: routines, admin, finances and communication with partners and family.
- Confidence and self-understanding: replacing years of self-criticism with an accurate understanding of how your brain works and where your strengths are.
- Long-term goals: studies, a business, a creative project, or finally finishing what you started.
Why choose me as your ADHD coach in Gauteng and online
I'm Christa Loots, a coach, trainer and facilitator based in Bedfordview, Johannesburg. I am a professionally trained coach with 15 years of experience and a specialisation in ADHD, registered with COMENSA, ICHHP and IPHM. My coaching practice focuses on life coaching, especially with neurodivergent adults, and on pattern recognition: noticing the loops that keep you stuck and designing a way out that suits your brain, your work and your life. My research and training in this field began when both my son and I were diagnosed with ADHD, mine later in life.
- Built around you: No generic productivity templates. Every coaching plan is bespoke, because no two adults with ADHD are the same.
- Practical, not theoretical: Each session ends with clear, small actions. Between sessions we track your progress so change becomes visible.
- Judgement-free: ADHD-related challenges are not character flaws. You can be honest here, including about the things you haven't managed yet.
My coaching style is warm, direct and structured. I work with clients as a partner in your ADHD journey, not as someone who tells you what to do.

In-person ADHD coaching in Gauteng
Sessions take place in Bedfordview, Johannesburg, easy to reach from Pretoria, Centurion, Midrand and Johannesburg. Some people find face-to-face sessions help them focus and feel more connected to their coach.
Online ADHD coaching across South Africa
Online coaching sessions run on video call, so you can join from Cape Town, Durban, Bloemfontein or anywhere else in the country, and from abroad. Online coaching is just as effective for many clients and removes travel time, which is a real bonus when time management is already a challenge.
ADHD coaching vs therapy: how a coach differs from licensed mental health professionals
ADHD coaching is not a replacement for a medical or psychological assessment, medication or therapy. Only licensed mental health professionals, such as psychiatrists and psychologists, are trained to diagnose and treat ADHD. Therapy, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), often explores the past and deals with mental health issues such as anxiety or depression.
Coaching focuses on the present and the future: what you want to achieve and the practical steps to get there. Coaches support you with structure and accountability rather than treatment. Many clients combine coaching with support from a psychiatrist, GP or psychologist, and that combination often works best. You don't need a formal diagnosis to start coaching, but if you suspect ADHD, I can point you towards professionals in South Africa who assess adults.
How to find a qualified ADHD coach: training and education to look for
Coaching is not a regulated profession in South Africa, so when you look for a coach it pays to ask questions. Here's what to check when you find a coach you like:
- Coaching training: Has the coach completed a recognised coach training program? Many coaches train through programmes accredited by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) or registered with COMENSA, the Coaches and Mentors of South Africa.
- ICF credentials: ICF levels include Associate Certified Coach (ACC), Professional Certified Coach (PCC) and Master Certified Coach (MCC), each with required training and coaching hours.
- ADHD-specific training: A certified ADHD coach has completed an ADHD training program on top of general coaching training. In these programmes coaches learn how ADHD affects executive function, motivation and emotions.
- Coaching experience: Ask how long they've been working with adults with ADHD and how many ADHD clients they've supported.
- Fit: A potential coach should be happy to explain their coaching style and how ADHD coaches work with clients between sessions.
An ADHD coach doesn't need a master's degree in psychology, but an experienced ADHD coach will know the limits of professional coaching and refer you on when something needs a clinician.

How much does ADHD coaching cost? Session and monthly coaching fees
The discovery call is free. ADHD coaching fees in South Africa vary depending on the coach's training and experience, session length and whether you book single sessions or a monthly coaching package. Online sessions are less expensive than face-to-face sessions. Many coaches offer packages, which usually work out cheaper per session and help you keep momentum. Most medical aids don't cover ADHD coaching because it isn't a medical treatment, but it's worth checking with your scheme. I'll confirm everything upfront on our first call, so there are no surprises.
ADHD coach FAQs
Can a life coach help with ADHD?
Yes. Coaching can help when the coach has a real understanding of ADHD. A professional ADHD coach helps you build the structure, routines and accountability that make daily life easier. Coaching works best for adults who want practical change and are ready to try new approaches. It complements, rather than replaces, medical and psychological care.
Who is ADHD coaching for?
Adults with ADHD, whether you were diagnosed as a child, recently diagnosed, or suspect you have attention deficit disorder. I work with professionals, students, entrepreneurs and parents across South Africa.
Do I need an ADHD diagnosis to work with an ADHD coach?
No. Many people start coaching while they're waiting for an assessment or exploring whether ADHD explains their experience. Coaching doesn't diagnose, but it can help you understand your patterns and decide on next steps.
What is the 30% rule for ADHD?
The “30% rule” comes from ADHD researcher Dr Russell Barkley. It suggests that executive function skills such as self-regulation, planning and time management may develop up to around 30% behind those of peers of the same age. It's a rule of thumb, not a measurement. It explains why adults with ADHD often benefit from extra structure and support, which is exactly what coaching provides.
How can adults with ADHD calm down and manage big emotions?
Emotional regulation is one of the most common areas we work on. Useful starting points include noticing early physical signs of overwhelm, creating a pause before you respond, reducing sensory load, moving your body and planning recovery time after demanding days. In coaching we find the techniques that work for you and practise them in real situations.
Are online ADHD coaching sessions as effective as in person?
For most clients, yes. Online sessions follow the same coaching process and many people find them easier to fit in. If you're in Gauteng, you can choose in person, online or a mix of both.
How long does ADHD coaching take?
Most clients notice changes within the first few sessions. For lasting habits, a commitment of around three to six months usually works well. We review progress regularly and adjust as you go.
How do I find an ADHD coach in South Africa?
Look for a coach with formal coaching training, ideally ICF-accredited or registered with COMENSA, plus specific ADHD training or experience working with adults with ADHD. Ask about their coaching style, whether they offer a trial coaching session, and whether they offer virtual coaching sessions. A good ADHD coach will also tell you when therapy or a medical assessment would help more.
